Challenge on Baptism

I had a co-worker who challenged me to find in the Bible on where does it say sprinkle with water for Baptism. Well, I think that I have completed in my challenge, nothing. It is not in the Bible.

I talked to my pastor about this and he asked where does it say immersion? So, now, we will take a good look at this.

This is from Matthew 3--"As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. " Hmmm, up out of the water. What does this mean? It means he was walking out of the river. How do you do that? You go up. This text does not mean immersion, but stating that Jesus was walking out of the river. Just think about this: how deep is the Jordon River? If you go to deeper waters, you will be swept by the currents.

Here is a text from Mark--"Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. " Again, the same words.

I think that either way can be used for Baptism, as baptism is not just water alone, it is our spiritual birth. I was baptized when I was almost a month old. My godparents are my grandfather (who died last Feb.) and my aunt on whom I shared my middle name. I like to call her my namesake, since I was named after her. My confirmation vows are renewal of my baptismal vows.

So, we will see when I talked to my co-worker about this. I will print out the What About? topic on Baptism.
